It can be overwhelming for sure, especially with blog posts like 52 small things to self-care. Hey, wait a minute, I need to do 52 things for self-care, that sounds like a lot. One could easily get distracted, confused, and end up packing it all in. Poof, another resolution bites the dust.
Well, here's where we offer up a solution and some take-away advice if this is on your resolution list for 2020.
What is self-care?
By nature, we like to keep things simple. Self-care is about caring for yourself. Wow, that's it, yep, that's it - no magic here.
Self-care is not about a regular prescription for a massage, manicure or facial - although it certainly can be a form of self-care (we like). Again, simply put it's about showing care for yourself. It means taking part in activities that improve your mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being. This may involve doing something or doing nothing at all.
Here's a short list of some activities that can you on the path. As you go, add more in and feel better equipped to handle life's stresses.
Seven Self-care ideas
- reading, even if only for 10 minutes
- start your morning early and put yourself first
- get your zzz's
- set boundaries for what you can and can't do - learn to say no
- acts of kindness for those around you
- practice mindfulness (see below for a great event coming soon)
- journal, write about your day, your plans, how you feel
